Before moving to Operations, I worked in the Sales department where the trainers were truly wonderful. They genuinely cared about our well-being and took the time to help us grow. I remember many occasions when they used their own lunch breaks to provide extra support and guidance. Their investment in the team made a huge difference and showed what good leadership and mentorship look like.

I am writing this years later because it deserves to be known and documented somewhere. My time at this company working in this particular department was a nightmare due to the manager at the time. The manager for the Lead Concierge department was an extreme micromanager who constantly watched our every move. She would listen in on calls and monitor our screens without warning, creating an atmosphere of anxiety and distrust. Even when we did everything right, she found fault and criticized every little thing. Her constant negativity wore down the whole team, leaving us feeling powerless and exhausted. What made it worse was how fake she became whenever upper leadership was around. She would completely change her tone, becoming overly sweet and eager to impress, which made it clear she cared more about pleasing those above her than supporting her own team. Working under her drained all motivation. The job itself wasn’t hard, but her toxic management made it feel impossible to care. I became so checked out and disengaged, despite having a strong work ethic. I was just going through the motions, doing the bare minimum to get by. Since leaving, I have thrived in my next role in ways I never could have while working under her. That experience showed me just how damaging a toxic manager can be, and how important it is to work in an environment that supports and values its employees. When layoffs came, she was apparently the only one from our team who wasn’t let go. Instead, she was moved to a different department and is now the client experience manager. Truly a clear indication that leadership was completely out of touch with what we were experiencing on the ground. Her leadership style crushed any sense of teamwork or pride. Wherever she is now, I hope it is nowhere near a leadership role. She is exactly the kind of person who earned her position by sucking up and looking good on paper while being horrible to the people she was supposed to lead.
