Hometap has been great to me the past 4+ years I've been along for the ride. There have been great times, there have been not so good times, but there have never been BAD times. Things change quickly, yes, but that is kind of what you are signing up for when you join a startup in the finance world. The product itself is great. It feels good helping homeowners all over the country reach their goals, where traditional options would have slammed a door in their face. You really get to make a positive impact in many people's lives. If you don't fully grasp the product, or don't have the skillset to educate others on the full scope of a Hometap Investment, I can see why people would not do well here. I sleep very well at night and am proud of the work we are doing here. For the skeptics and critics, no one has prompted me to write this review, but I feel compelled after reading so many negative things the past few months. I think leadership has done a pretty okay job at communicating the good, the bad, and the ugly with us all. It seems some haven't been paying attention in these reviews? Many of these complaints have been addressed numerous times with dates and very thorough details of the whys, hows, whens.... There are a lot of growth opportunities here to advance your career, our sales managers and directors are awesome to work with, and the compensation plan is AWESOME. I can assure you that I have not been handed anything on a silver platter here, there are no "favorites" or whatever people are saying. Those of us who are succeeding have also had times where we have not succeeded. The good months have far outweighed the bad months for me. That is the yin and yang of sales. I've watched several IMs join Hometap who had little to no financial sales experience who figured this out and have been able to succeed. (Our trainers were top performers and have a great onboarding program now!) I've watched brand new people join and immediately succeed. I've watched countless peers get promoted. Every single one of us is more than willing to help others learn, but you need to bring a certain amount of grit and resourcefulness, or you'll fall behind.

Lead flow consistency and fluctuations when we grow too quickly. Sometimes decisions are made rashly and it feels like upper leadership doesn't fully understand (or care) about the scope of how these changes will impact the frontline teams, the heart and soul of this company. Please consider us! We also don't have an employee 501(c)(3) non profit company donation match, which I'd love to see added in the future since we do some much in the community to give back in Boston.

The people are one of Hometap's greatest strengths. I've had the opportunity to work alongside talented, collaborative teammates across engineering, product, design, and the business. There is a high degree of ownership and autonomy, giving teams the ability to make meaningful contributions while staying focused on outcomes. The work combines interesting technical challenges with complex business problems, and strong cross-functional partnerships are essential to success. For engineers who enjoy continuous learning, there are also plenty of opportunities to grow, both technically and as a leader.

Like any growing company, priorities can shift as the business responds to changing market conditions and new opportunities. Operating in a regulated industry also means that decisions often involve multiple stakeholders and competing priorities, which can sometimes slow progress or require teams to adjust course. Engineering teams must regularly balance long-term technical investments with immediate business needs, and not every project will be greenfield work. Success requires adaptability, strong communication, and a willingness to focus on the problems that create the most value for the business.

* Favorable comp plan where even 1% over target gets you into accelerators * Good benefits and matching 401K * Management is quick to resolve issues, I.E. a payroll issue for myself was resolved in a matter of “days” when brought to HR’s attention * Genuine people that care about the mission and guiding homeowners through our process

Take the cons with a grain of salt from 1 star reviews. The truth lies often times in the middle of the 5 star and 1 star extremes: * Yes, 2025 was a difficult year with some months where less than half the floor hit goal. Management reduced targets by a good margin to compensate and now over half the floor hits goal, probably closer to 70% of the floor lately * Lead flow can be erratic at times, however, goals are set in part due to prior weeks and months of lead quantity * Not sure why folks feel this place is full of “toxic positivity”. Would you rather everyone be cold, calculating, and mean spirited? I’ve never personally felt that any of my interactions with management or peers to be anything but genuine and honest
