And the "wolf culture" can create an unfriendly and competitive atmosphere. - Non-fluency in Mandarin limits opportunities for growth and promotion, and separates you from the insiders. - Overtime is expected when necessary and work/life balance is not a priority. - Lack of trust from HQ, and lots of greyness and uncertainty in terms of feedback about progress and projects. - External geopolitical stuff is a distraction that can add pressure to the work environment as well as outside social relationships with non-ex-pats. - Bureaucratic systems can be confusing to navigate and understand.
