The mission is what keeps people coming every day. The company has a lot of very smart people who want to do world-saving work. The founder is very good at getting people to believe in his vision, and very good at raising money.

When I joined I spoke to another employee, and made a comment about how most people have not been there for very long. His response was "you'll know why soon". 1) Very few people are happy, most are stressed and quick to blame each other when things go badly. 2) It's very important to work very hard, but not necessarily well. Cutting corners is strongly encouraged in the interest of delivering faster but little care is given to safety. 3) As a result of 2), many projects fail, and many have to be rewritten from scratch. 4) Turnover is high, which also exacerbates 2) as the learnings from previous attempts are not kept. 5) Poor alignment between tech teams (e.g. front end and back end) so APIs often break or are not thought through. 6) Using AI as a buzzword (you can search LinkedIn to see how many employees are actually doing AI/ML) If you're a great engineer you can probably do better. I suspect there has been an internal drive to improve their Glassdoor rating.
