Joining a startup is not for everyone, and Hummingbird is no exception. It is a fast-paced environment where things evolve quickly, and that comes with real challenges. We are building something unique in healthcare, and doing that means navigating change, solving hard problems, and staying flexible along the way. That said, for the right person, it is an incredibly rewarding place to work. The people here are genuinely kind, smart, hardworking, and supportive. The work is meaningful, interesting, and often complex, but there is a strong sense that we are in it together. Even during stressful or chaotic moments, people make an effort to support one another and celebrate wins along the way. Senior leadership is approachable, communicative, and transparent, and the company has worked hard to build a culture grounded in respect, growth, and teamwork. This will not be the right fit for everyone, but for someone who thrives in change and wants to help make healthcare a little less painful, it can be a great place to be.

Feelings based, very kind, fun and quirky. Big work life balance, nothing ever feels urgent or important. Timelines and deadlines constantly moved, which allows for a lot of flexibility.

My experience at Hummingbird raised serious concerns about leadership structure and long term viability - I don't think this company will exist in 1-2 years. Management frequently restructures teams, which often results in new promotions and high salary roles for leaders brought (nepotism for BlueTree club) rather than meaningful operational improvements. And low salaries & no career advancement for everyone else. Layoffs disproportionately impacted individual contributors while leadership remained intact, creating execution gaps and low morale. There was also a lack of thoughtful workforce planning, contract structure, and training enablement. Leadership responsible for most of this downfall kept their jobs as well with no consequence. Culturally, parts of leadership — particularly Learning & Development — demonstrated unprofessional behavior, including speaking negatively about team members, openly discussing who they wanted to terminate, and creating an environment that felt petty and inappropriate rather than supportive and creating fear based team.
