Vantaggi

Very disability and veteran friendly. Older worker's welcome. 2/3 of people in my unit are over 50. Great health benefits at low individual cost. Medical people smile when they see my insurance card. Many ergonomic considerations, they want you to be comfortable in your working environment and will go the extra mile to help you. Salary slightly better than comparable work I was able to obtain in Nov 2010 after 25 job applications. Wonderful training and probation period. Easy access to Union representatives. Pretty good cafeteria. Nice break areas.Team building enthusiasm.A degree is not required for my position, which is close to the bottom rung, but I have been treated with respect by all managers, including middle or senior managers I might meet. Retirement benefits after just a few years if you are over 50. Work is not hard, if you pay attention. You can take your breaks whenever you want, and there are flexible shift schedules. Lots of little parties and good things to eat. Advancement is very possible into jobs that are perfect for you.

Svantaggi

Too much focus on trouble makers and complainers at times. Can be boring and repetitious, but you are allowed to wear headphones and listen to music and talk to nearby workers. Also, getting help with benefit forms and information can be a challenge at times

Vantaggi

-Got me started in my career as an auditor -thorough tax law training -many senior auditors helping you learn the profession

Svantaggi

-communication from management is not always transparent -when you are at the bottom of the ladder, you get verbal abuse from not only POA and taxpayers (understandable, given this is the IRS), but also management/OJI's. They want to look good to their bosses and will throw you under the bus if they have to in order to save themselves. Even if they gave you instructions that got you in trouble. They SHOULD be supporting you in your function as an auditor, but they'll do whatever is easiest for themselves ultimately. -on job training can be disorganized -bureaucratic culture -like many other companies, a lot of things you're expected to learn by yourself. Such as how to avoid POA delays.
