ITW is much like GE in that you get world class training (80/20, Funnel, CBI). I applied what I learned and exceeded my sales budget in my first year and received ‘exceeded expectations’ on my annual review. In short, ITW does a premier job developing their employees.

Divisions are held to a 2% quarterly forecast which is impossible unless you are God-like and can predict all your customer’s customers buying habits. No other Fortune corporation places this unrealistic metric on its employees. In short, ITW is a ‘private equity like’ company run by accountants (more accountants than sales people), and the work experience at the division-level is very stressful in meeting financial expectations. It is also why employee turnover is higher than other Fortune companies.
