Vantaggi
My direct colleagues (ie other engineers, designers, project managers) were wonderful people.
Svantaggi
There literally isn't enough space here to cover off everything so let's go with some themes. > Cruel and abusive treatment of staff by CEO/COO and senior management. They fired an entire team without cause or any notice. They didn't pay them their last pay cheque or legally entitled benefits, including someone who was owed maternity leave for just having a baby! Prior to this payment of wages and superannuation (like a 401k) was constantly late with no communications. They would randomly join client meetings and tell the client in front of you that you were incompetent etc. and they would find someone else to "fix" things for you. They would gaslight you constantly by refusing to honour commitments they had made. They would regularly schedule mandatory client meetings at completely unreasonable times. When I joined, a nice little thing that happened within our team is the project manager would you buy a cake on your birthday. Nothing fancy, just something cheap/simple from the supermarket. I remember when we were told that they would no longer allow this due to the cost - of a $20 cake a handful of times per year. What a way to kill employee motivation and say you don't care about them. > IncompetentCEO/COO and senior management. I genuinely believe that senior management have never completely delivered a single end-to-end project of any reasonable complexity. They seem to have no concept of what actually goes into delivering a complex software project and an inability to provide adequate resourcing like functional laptops or paying their web hosting bills. I was delayed on a project for over a week because it took the COO that long to approve a $10 expenditure for twilio. Also expect to be coding about 5 different software projects at once because they were understaffed and overcommitted. They also love promising unrealistic timelines and capabilities to clients. > Refusal to have reasonable discussions about performance reviews/pay rises For months we were promised we'd have performance reviews and discuss pay rises. This kept getting pushed back and eventually two people quit, both who said this was a large part of the reason. In response, they suddenly bought them forward and gave everyone a performance review. The pay rise they offered didn't even keep up with inflation since the last one and I had argue for a more reasonable amount.
