Vantaggi
Meager stable income and bonus Nothing else
Svantaggi
1) All newly hired JO/ SO will be posted to land checkpoints 2) Long working hours (12 hrs shift). 3) Senior officers cannot claim overtime, only time-off 4) Moving towards regimental culture, only if you like the Police/ Army life style 5) Hard to take annual leaves/ time-off, especially during weekend and public holidays 6) Canteen food will be a demoralised element working in the land checkpoints 7) No proper resting area/ places during nightshift 8) Given the rising prices of HDB flats, it takes about 8 to 10 years of newly hired to be affordable for a 4-room HDB flat 9) Take no transferable skill home 10) Professional skills/knowledge acquired during the university/ polytechnic will be lost after a few years after joining ICA 11) After a couple of years in service, most tend not to be able to think critically as tasks are routine and nothing keeps the mind running, limited opportunities 12) Not for people who has high aspirations 13) High resignation rate and sign on bonus (why they have high sign-on bonus, you think about it!) 14) Very hard to change job after staying for 10 years as the skill-sets acquired cannot be applied elsewhere 15) Newly hired sergeant will be like a foot solider in the land checkpoint, because you will be the lowest grade among the rest (most likely to remain this grade for about 10 years 16) Get sponsored for further studies? Only for certain privilege officer. 17) Promotion takes years to come or maybe not as there are not many grades to move up. Also, very hard to get notice from your RO 18) For Senior officers, be prepared to make plenty of sacrifices, like family time, rest during working hours and time off. You will always be a sandwich party between the ACs and your foot soldier 19) a place where you won't get starved, but you won't flourish too. 20) a very slow career movement. In about 8 to 10 years’ time, a diploma holder in the private sector might move faster than a degree holder in terms of salary and career progression. 21) Just look at how many negative comments about this organisation in Glassdoor and others. The changes in working hours to 12hrs shift might have affected many older officers to resign. Hence, in about 10 to 20 year’s time again, change of policies might goes against your aspirations and too late for you to regret. 22) Nothing worth joining as there are many restriction to be a civil servant
