Vantaggi
1. The company is full of truly talented and capable employees. It was easy to reach out to someone on a different team to collaborate on an idea or develop something creative. The team at Incredible is second to none, and as someone who has spent time in a lot of rooms with a lot of writers, I'd be willing to put their content team against anyone in the industry. 2. All employees are encouraged to work a 32-hour work week, and in the years I was there, this was never an issue for me. Early on it meant taking Fridays off, but at other times it meant working slightly shorter hours throughout the week as the needs of my family changed. If you are someone with kids and a family who still wants to work in a high performing environment, you've found it. 3. The unlimited PTO policy is not a gimmick. The company gives everyone time off during the holiday season, which is two weeks around Christmas and New Years. You are also encouraged to take time off when needed, whether it be sick time, a personal day, or vacation time. I did not encounter a single instance when actually taking time off was a problem, and I worked directly under multiple directors and the CEO. The push for this kind of work life balance is truly coming from the top down. Some years this meant a week, other years it meant a few weeks for big traveling trips. If the work and productivity is there, you won't have a problem taking advantage of this perk. 4. You are actively encouraged to grow. I started as a content writer and moved into a content strategy position for the internal team. In both positions, management was proactive in enabling growth within and outside of my current role. There was no shortage of people willing to teach, and no shortage of people willing to enable your career growth. As a member of the internal marketing team, the CEO invested a significant amount of time teaching me about industry and marketing concepts I was unfamiliar with. Even on my exit, the entire management team's reaction was to let me know they were rooting for me. 5. Your work doesn't go unnoticed. The team is active about giving kudos and recognition to people doing cool things, and it is definitely a place where you come to enjoy reading about people's achievements and having your own shouted out to everyone.
Svantaggi
I will admit that it I find it difficult to find anything bad to say about my experience, but in the interest of people considering a position at Incredible, here are some considerations that might be useful. 1. It is an agency, which means busy seasons are definitely busy. I've worked for multiple agencies and other publications, and unfortunately this just seems to be unavoidable. Incredible is consistently bringing in new clients, which means new work is always there. But it also means job security is as well, and as I mentioned before, there is a big focus on work/life balance, and all the leadership is happy to bring in additional support whenever needed. It is probably not a great place for anyone who isn't looking to be pushed, but you'll find no unreasonable or stressful workloads here. 2. I am hesitant to call this a con, but it may be a con for some people who are driven primarily by total compensation. The pay, from my experience, is fair and average for the market, and potentially leaning toward the higher end of the typical pay scale for certain positions. If you are looking to maximize your income, the truth is that you'll probably find somewhere a lot more intense that can pay a little more. But, for me personally, the small bump wasn't worth the tradeoff in work/life balance, and when you do the math on time worked for salary paid, you can really see how much value you are getting. Nevertheless, if you are seeking the biggest paycheck possible, this might not be the place for you.
