The benefits are above average in that they still have a match with the 401k and a pension plan. We work a 37.5 hour week. Employees are treated as adults and not micromanaged, but this all depends on your manager and which department you are in. But work and life balance is great. You aren't expected to work 60 hour weeks. Employees are kept informed of what's going on with the company and there is a lot of focus on keeping employees happy. You feel like you are in individual and not a number even though there at 5k employees. There is a structured process for everything from annual reviews, to salary increases, to job descriptions so you are never left wondering. I came form a very small company wehre nothign was a set rpocess so it was refreshing to actually get answers to questions. I'm happy here and most employees don't leave once they're in. Most of the workforce has been here for 10+ years and very low turnover. However, the insurance world is changing, so I think the company will change with it. This always brings uncertainty. Also, most people here are used to just sitting on autopilot and now things need to change. I believe those who adapt well to change will suceed.

departments are fragmented- hard to find who does what and most people resist taking additional responsibilties. almost too large to be efficient and prgessive a lot of the management has been here for 25+ years and are set in their ways- hard to implement change. Some have a seniority complex, they think since they've always done what they've done it must be right. But this is changing as we are hiring younger people and starting to change the culture. Senior VPs are disconnected from regular workforce unstable industry with helathcare reform going through change pains of adapting to new health insurance environment lots of reorganization occuring
