Vantaggi
Indigo Ag can recruit very talented individuals with their strong mission, values, and good salary. Their mission is inspiring and more agriculture companies need to prioritize farmer profitability, sustainability, and consumer preferences. Though most individuals they hire do not have experience in agriculture, they hire very top-notch talent! They allow the opportunity, in many cases, to work remotely for good wages. Their Memphis and Boston offices are spectacular!
Svantaggi
It is a start-up still (despite what some executives say now given the volume of employees), so changes are abrupt and dramatic. For example, many outside sales reps were laid off without being employed by Indigo for even 90 days. If not laid off/let go, your job description when hired *will* change drastically. If it does not, you are in an outlier role within the company; certainly not sales or management. There is something very important to be said for people who care about the health of the ag industry when working on a platform like Marketplace (Indigo's #1 focus for 2020). They have finally put a few managers/directors in place who are motivated particularly by the commodity trade, but no one can seem to figure out how to effectively communicate market info amongst teams. Management turnover is very high. It seems you have to build rapport with a new manager every couple of months, if not every quarter. In agriculture, you find a strong atmosphere of "people do business with people." However, people often don't do business with people if the company that person works for is known in the industry as being untrustworthy and for not executing transactions effectively.
