Beautiful part of the world Made me realize the health and wellness implications of ZERO work/life balance.
Svantaggi
Good people were leaving CONSTANTLY. Toxic work culture. Employees are made to feel bad for doing things that are within your rights (like taking breaks or leaving work on time) We were told that we needed to "produce" 3x our income to "earn our keep" as employees- even in maintenance roles. We were constantly bombarded with after-work and weekend text messages and emails. You aren't allowed to disconnect when you are off and this expectation is a recipe for burnout. ZERO work/life balance and guilt trips if you use PTO. They do not pay out PTO if you leave the company, either, so if you do decide to work for them be sure to USE IT. They make false agreements in hiring negotiations about annual bonuses- even though it was in writing my bonus was not honored. Because Chef Patrick O'Connell has dedicated his life to this, he expects his employees to sacrifice everything... without the same benefits that he enjoys, of course. We were told constantly that we were there to play a role in POC's "story" - like actors in a play. The women who work in the housekeeping department must wear "French Maid" uniforms and the Inn enforces lipstick and panty hose for female staff. Outmoded and outdated... all of it needs to evolve but it seems stuck in a time-warp of "lobster chartreuse" and old-school dishes masquerading as "innovation". Nothing you do is ever enough there. It is a toxic work culture and there is constant turnover because of this- it is a "churn and burn" environment. Meanwhile, there is zero effort to try to understand why employees keep leaving in droves or to resolve the issues. They spend all of their time groveling to the guests- so, no time to consider employees, it seems.
