Instinct is a genuinely special place. The company is evolving quickly, which makes the work fast-paced, but it’s all with the same mission in mind of empowering our pet parents. What keeps it energizing is the people: grounded, collaborative, and deeply committed to doing great work together. There’s a strong sense of shared purpose, and leadership is transparent, open, and human. Everyone is down to Earth and approachable which is such a breath of fresh air compared to other organizations I've been a part of. It’s a place where high standards and kindness coexist. I feel lucky to be part of it. BONUS - it's a dog friendly office!

With rapid growth comes some growing pains—processes are still catching up, but the company is aware of this and many great initiatives are moving forward to help lessen this pain point. But even so, those growing pains are not terrible.

Instinct could be a great place to work, but the management style holds the team back. Feedback is not given in real time, which means employees don’t have the chance to adjust or improve before annual or semi-annual reviews. Instead, issues are saved up and delivered all at once, often resulting in surprise PIPs that feel completely out of left field. Managers did not consistently hear both sides before making decisions, and favoritism played a large role in who was supported and who wasn’t. This creates a culture of uncertainty and distrust. Clearer communication, fairness, and actual coaching would go a long way toward improving the employee experience.
