Think long and hard before working here. The salaries are not competitive. They said they just did a salary survey, and they determined the salaries are now competitive. That proved to be false because a simple Google search revealed that I was underpaid. Evaluate if you can live in DuPage county with the salary they offer you. Most likely you will have to live in a different county and commute. Will you be able to afford gas prices and wear and tear on your car if you're commuting? In addition to this, a majority of the books they publish are evangelical and liberal. This makes for a small demographic of readers and an unsustainable financial model. Employee raises are small and one year no one got a raise. They did increase vacation time and sick time. I found, however, that all I could afford were staycations. I desperately needed the staycations though because I've also never been so overworked in any job I've had before. They have puritanical work expectations but do not come close to paying you what you are worth. As for me, I've moved on to another job that pays living wages, does not require excessive work, and treats its employees fairly. I've never been more grateful to leave a place of employment before. Some of us who have left have spoken with each other about what we went through while working at IVP. It's been hopeful and healing, and my life has become so much better now. I'm happy again, and I'm excited about my life once more. I hadn't felt that in a long time.
