They are listed as a non-profit company. However, like most healthcare organizations, their bottom line is money. The administration makes decisions that lack clinical validity. They have continually fired excellent employees for becoming too vocal about mistreatment. Because they have a monopoly in the state of Utah with their healthcare system, they are able to offer less than competitive wages and dominate over their employees. I worked at this organization for over 20 years and never felt like anything but a very disposable number to them. A skilled RN at the bedside is extremely valuable, yet they prefer to hire a new grad or employees who are submissive. Recently, a large number of nurses with valid concerns kept approaching management. Instead of having an open dialogue in any form, they have all been told, "If you don't like it leave. I have enough other people that want this job." I have had multiple conversations with upper management which proceed the paraphrased lines... "I do not expect to get everything that I want in this job. I am asking to be heard and listened to and treated like a member of the team. I would hope that my input means something, or at least will be met with open conversation." Floor RN's are rarely asked for their input and are given orders without an understanding of why. Again, I have over 20 years of working as an RN at this company. It is impossible to get even a small percentage of what you want in the workplace, but being valued doesn't mean getting what you want!
