      You're able to contribute directly to the well-being of your clients. I had wonderful, supportive coworkers with similar values to my own, and when I had the energy to, I was allowed to pursue passion projects that aligned with my job.

      You will constantly be overworked, you won't get paid a lot, and you will definitely have management breathing down your neck about meeting program expectations. Plus it can become emotionally draining if you invest too much of yourself into your work or world events. There is also not much upward mobility, although you can easily move between departments.

      Recent budget cuts driven by federal executive orders have created a strained internal culture. Some teams outside of individual and private fundraising have found themselves in the position of repeatedly having to justify their value in order to access basic resources, which has affected morale and collegiality across the organization. Limited career growth opportunities due to cuts.
