Vantaggi
- Accessible by public transport and pretty much the ideal location to work in if you're living around PJ. - Working hours are 10am - 7pm, so that gives you some leeway to travel to and fro office with lesser jam (unless you live far away). - Colleagues are generally of a younger demographic with a different interests and hobbies, if you're willing to try new hobbies and sports, there's always a group of people that will be there with you haha. - Directors get very very hands-on with work, even till now they do visit guard houses and run committee meetings when they are available. Gotta love it when they are willing to get their hands down and dirty! - Directors are generally open to hear feedback and debate on ideas whenever they have the time to listen (although most of the time, they may not act on it unless it makes total sense to them) - Depending on the department you're in, you tend to get exposure to a huge variety of people through clients, like committee members (who work in all kinds of industries). May be good if you're looking to expand your network. - Company's generally open to expose you to more things within and outside your scope if you are willing to ask, fight, and show up for it. - Everyone's generally fun to be around with (even bosses!), and there's never a dull day at work :)
Svantaggi
- Working on some weekends is to be expected (unless you are in departments like Finance, Tech HR etc.). You are given replacement leave, but that blurs the line with your work and personal life. Think twice about getting a role here if you strongly refuse to spend a few hours on your Saturday coming out for sales meetings or roll outs . - While 10am - 7pm is the official working hours, a good number of the colleagues tend to work past that consistently. Leaving office on-time used to be perceived as a bad thing for a while too, but that's changed since remote working was allowed after COVID-19. - Contrary to all the other reviews before this, there's limited food choices available in Phileo Damansara 1. Food's average, and even the mixed rice stalls serve the same few dishes on the daily. My colleagues and I would either Grabfood or often drive out to SS17, Uptown or other PJ areas for lunch. - Communication between departments was and is still a problem (in terms of outlining product and company visions, the work others are doing, etc.). Employees tend to feel "unheard" (for a lack of better word) after they've voiced out their opinions, not knowing that their thoughts have been relayed to the management and discussions were made. - Management needs serious work on their leadership and managerial skills. They are open to learn, however most of them are so bogged up with their work to the point that upskilling themselves was not a priority. - Adding on to the above point, as directors trust the managers' ability to execute MORE than their ability to manage or lead others, work is sometimes directly given to the managers and not the rest of the team. Managers themselves are open to delegate, but with tight demands and tighter deadlines, the easier way out was always to do-it-themselves. That as a result paints a narrative to the employees that bosses tend to stick to their inner circle employees and does not provide room for the juniors to grow. - Personal growth of employees was something that was not proactively valued by the management in the past (I mentioned past, as that's begun to change over the last 1 - 2 months). With a majority of fresh grads/hires with 1-2 years experience, they were often silo-ed in their work and had almost no idea on how to manage their own growth in the company. This isn't so much of a Con, but if the company's hiring strategy was centered to fresh graduates, mechanisms needed to be in place to make sure they are equipped with a framework to drive their own growth in the company. I had to spend a lot of time feeling around and putting my nose around other departments to get what I wanted when I first joined (as a freshie). - Bosses love using Whatsapp as a synchronous communication medium. While there's an internal system for work management and reporting, do get a work number and work phone before you get overwhelmed by 30 different group chats ringing throughout the day (even more when you're part of a client-facing department). - If bosses are in your internal meetings (or if you ever have 1-on-1's with them), expect your meetings to be overextended and dragged past your scheduled end time. They are storytellers, and their attention diverts a LOT outside the meeting topic if you do not moderate the meeting properly. If you can't moderate meetings well, this is going to be a painful struggle for you. - Adding on to the fact that they are storytellers and persuasive, they are often very persistent and stubborn in driving their ideas across. Takes someone strong-willed enough to be able to say no and debate them through to make sure these projects are validated without massive commitments.
