My advice to anyone thinking of working at John Lewis is don't listen to all the hype and flannel that you are told when you start. I came to John Lewis with a lot of experience and was promised many things during my interview and when I started with the business. Training is frankly a joke, and the businesses idea of training is a 5 minute session before you start work in the morning which is rushed and usually cut short, or sitting in front of a computer doing a poorly put together modules. There expectation is that you complete the module…and you should know it all. If you are also looking for promotion forget it unless you are in the clique. I came with over 20 years of high level management experience, and constantly hit high scores in my JLP monthly reviews, and the most I could ever prise out of the business was the extra role of first aider and stock taking duties. When I left, I think there was around 20 people in my team also leave within 2-3 months. We had all just had enough!
