Industry leading products, cool to see behind the scenes at a lot of manufacturing plants, good base pay coming out of college. Good job coming out of college. Good for having no sales experience. A lot of young male co-workers makes the office fun, if you are a young male.

At Keyence, activity is king. Which means number of dials, time on the phone, number of sales calls. This leads to most of the managers favorites, being the people who simply fake these metrics, making all sorts of fake phone calls and stopping at places who will never buy just to boost the numbers. This is ridiculous and wasteful. Their commission is shamefully stingy. I've never heard of a sales org that disincentivizes you for beating goal. The higher over goal you get, the lower your commission percentage goes. This obviously leads to a bunch of sandbagging of orders so you never do too good and consistently hit goal, rather than crush it one quarter. You can pretty much guess who will be promoted just based on what territory they get. They can be very stingy with promotions and pay you far less than all of their competitors. No wonder they churn through so many employees. Not many people will turn down a competitor willing to double your pay and let you work from home. Keyence for some reason makes you stay locked in the office from 7:30 to 5, even if you have no work to do. Things like this make it a grind to work here. Messages to managers if you are a minute late in the mornings also take their toll. Some managers pick favorites very early on and you will have to do much more to get promoted if you aren't a favorite. Promotion criteria is about as clear as mud. They really just make it up as they go. They rarely can explain why one person got promoted over another. This is a big problem and part of the reason that so many people quit here. Cheaters get rewarded, people in bad territories get passed up and forgotten. Stay here for 2 years and then move to a company that wants to reward employees rather than one that looks to claw back opportunity wherever they can.

Fast paced work environment. CRM is the best I have ever had access to. Data tracking and sales insight is top notch. The regional director for TSS in Michigan/Indiana is great to work under. Leads are easily available, the product is great and it’s easy to get in the door places.

Metrics are more focused on quantity over quality. Frequently working 50+ hour weeks. Too many reps per territory and it can create a negative perception. Bonus structure vs straight commission is frusterating. Clear advancement structure however being ranked against peers with different sales targets in frusterating. Feels like a turn and burn type of mentality towards sales reps.
