Vantaggi

I worked at The Lean Startup Company remotely PT during 2019. Overall, it was an amazing place to work with highly motivated employees. The leadership at the company goes above and beyond to support staff as needed. My only reason for leaving was fulfilling my own personal interest in a design and media related occupation. I enjoyed working here and still stay in touch with the company's employees!

Svantaggi

Being able to handle and prioritize workload. Very typical startup concern but management has taken initiatives to gain employee feedback and make improvements.

Vantaggi

I worked as a business development leader at LSCo for 4+ years. This role was the most fun, impactful and rewarding experience of my career. Here's why: Company Level: - While the company is small, the mission is huge. I had the unique opportunity to help individuals in large, complex organizations transform to a modern way of thinking and working. This experience was incredibly humbling, interesting and powerful. I felt very engaged in the work and the mission. - There’s real opportunity for growth and to make lasting impact. Because the company is constantly growing and changing, if you are aligned and laser focused on your KPIs, the sky's the limit. - I was pushed out of my comfort zone countless times in my role, only to find myself in a new, bigger comfort zone. This was one of the best things for me both personally and professionally. - In this role, I had the incredible opportunity to work with some of the brightest, kindest, and most innovative people on the planet. Customers truly felt like partners and it was with great joy to be with them on their innovation journeys. - The company is fully remote. I’m the kind of person who needs quiet, uninterrupted time to get stuff done, so being remote allowed for this kind of flexibility and minimal interruptions. Sure, there are phone calls, slack, texts, etc., so an important part of this is setting healthy boundaries and only focusing on what’s essential. - The work hours are generally flexible, so long as you’re available for customers and team meetings as necessary, you can work whenever you want. - Unlimited vacation time! Admittedly, I was an independent contractor so this is a given. And my understanding is employees get this perk, too. Leadership Level: - The leadership team is composed of smart, open-minded and mission-driven individuals who are professional and honest. I appreciated being able to interact with intelligent, well-meaning folks who cared about me as a person in addition to the outcomes I generated. - Any concern, suggestion or recommendation I shared was met with attention and respect, even if leadership didn't like what they heard, or agree with me. - There was both an environment of psychological safety and radical candor with the leadership team. Feedback was clear, accurate and consistent. I always did my best and was ultimately rewarded for it. - LSCo supports individual passion projects. I was able to integrate mine where appropriate (mindfulness and meditation facilitation) and it brought me great joy to support folks by sharing my varied skill set. Team Level: - Working with the team was hands down one of my favorite parts about working at LSCo! Not only are they smart and dedicated, they are some of the funniest people I’ve ever met and work together like a well-oiled machine. Even new hires seem to hit the ground running. The team is full of folks who are trustworthy, humble and have a bias for action and kindness.

Svantaggi

Like any job, it also had its challenges. Here’s more detail on my personal opinions and experiences: - Being a small company that's constantly growing and changing, there is a lack of established systems and processes. This can be hard if you’re like me and thrive with more structure and consistency. - As a small company without financial backing, there is generally a shortage of resources. Personally, this was challenging in my role because there was minimal administrative and marketing support throughout my tenure there. - Remote team. Even though this is a pro, it's also a con. Meaning, there are some things that are just more efficient and easier when you work together in person. Also, I liked my team so much that it would have been really bonding to get together in person more often!

From my first meeting with Co-founder and CEO Heather McGough, I immediately knew I want to join the Lean Startup Company. I learned throughout my 30 year career that what matters most to the employee experience is their management and leadership. Heather exudes the qualities of a servant leader, who invests in developing and enriching the lives of her employees, while building a strong organization to drive the business. Heather is that rare breed of leaders who listen, empathize, think before speaking, and are committed to their people -- all guided by a genuine moral compass. That, combined with her business leadership skills, courage, foresight and drive for action and results, make her a great leader. The company's mission to help make our world's future better for everyone is inspiring. And it's not just words on paper. It's real for everyone on the team, as they constantly connect their individual priorities to the reason the company exists. Finally, the team is delightful to work with. It's a group of smart, friendly and engaged people who love what they do. Everyone is open to learning. This is the first organization I've encountered where there are no egos.

Svantaggi

To work at the Lean Startup Co., you have to adapt to being remote. The pros of the remote model are clear, especially when it comes to balancing work and life. But it requires you to be very proactive with communication, and to prioritize live over written communication. That makes up for missing the inherent efficiency and camaraderie of co-located teams.
