Vantaggi

They sell a good game - socially responsible investment in emerging markets. You feel good telling this to people, even though you know it's a veneer. Can give you access to interesting people and opportunities elsewhere. Many have used it to build their resume before their MBA.

The Partners are incompetent, ego-driven men obsessed with getting their tax-free salaries through various tax loop holes (caring for the world's poor? no, not remotely). The Partners are also, on a whole just very lucky to be a LP as they don't understand finance or business (it's shocking the things I've heard come out of their mouths) and wouldn't understand the concept of mentoring if it hit them in the face. In fact, the CEO use to have a 'spy' who would report back to him from the ranks. Things like that and the well-known keeping tabs on you by the Partners creates an atmosphere of distrust but on the surface you have to be super excited, eager and have no issues whatsoever, otherwise you're ungrateful for the amazing opportunity they have given you by letting you join Leapfrog. It's basically part old boys club / part cult, and you are expected to worship at the alter of the CEO and Partners, and if you don't conform, expect them to make your life pretty miserable. It's too bad as they recruit some really great, intelligent, more junior people (although the good ones don't stick around for long). Salaries are also abysmal - they keep claiming that they are the top tier, the McKinsey of PE, but only the Partners get anywhere near top-tier pay... Also, obsessed with image, looking good and spinning a good tale to the media - the amount of coaching we got on PR and what to say outweighed any topics of substance. I would not be surprised if the one positive review here on Glassdoor was a carefully crafted internal effort... Surely even the media have caught on that their portfolio performance is pretty poor (hello, how many exits?) and it's all a lot of feel-good fluff. Overall, a highly toxic work environment driven by the Partners, which outweighs any interesting work or nice (junior) people you may meet along the way.

LeapFrog unites thinkers of tomorrow, those who embrace new progressive ideas of doing good and those who don't live for the sake of greed only. You would meet folks from all walks of life, very diverse, very friendly and down-to-earth people you would call friends at the end of the day. The level of thinking is top-notch and you will see that your humanistic aspirations go up as well, as a result of such new-wave environment. One gets to enjoy global retreats, work-life flexibility, office lunch, and top people - here I mean not necessarily in terms of formal education (which might easily be a mere piece of paper) but rather in terms of their true quality that shows in world-changing ideas and inspiring conversations.

As the firm is relatively young, even though it might produce top-quartile PE performance, it does not pay near the top quartile comp (which means the promise of top-quartile returns is not in line with the logical conclusion that it would translate in top-quartile benefits); pension is not even worth mentioning. That is the primary reason why it's difficult to attract top talent and difficult to keep younger people.
