Management has no idea what they're doing, it's honestly like they all collectively have no idea how to build decent software. You will be worked non stop. You will do all nighters. You will give up evenings and weekends. You will give up holidays. You will get guilted if you leave "early" at 6pm, even if you came in at 9am. The communication is dismal. People are promoted to positions they clearly have no business being in, and they aren't given any training or mentoring. So in turn they become awful managers who then manage other awful managers who then run miserable teams. There is also tension that you'll get fired at any given moment. There is no job security, and management is only interested in meeting goals so they get huge bonuses (which would be totally acceptable if the end results were even good, which they aren't). The work itself is rushed and sloppy, which is a shame considering the talent that does exist in the actual workers grinding it out. Unrealistic deadlines, non stop working, no mentoring, no guidance, no leadership you can trust. There is always something going on you're unaware of, and always someone about to be thrown under the bus for making mistakes they were never even told were potential mistakes. It all goes back to terrible communication. I don't blame the CEO, she honestly believes in the company, she's just out of the loop and at this point in time the mgmt team around her really should take some ownership in the distrust and sweatshop environment people work in. She believes it's mostly sunshine and roses because that's what people blow her way, when it's not the truth. It's a very unhealthy environment set up to drive talent away. No one in management will have your back. No one.
