I joined 1.5 years ago 1) Rare chance to change big company through a much smaller acquired startup. Personally I have a bigger role than I could possibly have at a company nearly the size. And i think that naysayers (including a few on glassdoor) need a REALITY CHECK. Go apply for a job at another financial institution of NWMs size and you will be a rank and file employee for a decade before having an impact. If you are NYC office / LearnVest, you are literally one of the key change agents of the entire company. Invaluable experience. May mean great long term role here. For me will probably leverage into something else at some point. But has been very career advancing for me. 2) technology and product having confusing reporting. and tension between the two. But are doing game-changing work. Transferable to startup world or to taking a bigger seat at a mature company. 3) Good, smart people. 4) Sort of like living through a case study on big company "transformation". A lot of that inevitable if not already underway. 5) Taverna's french fries. I love greek food. the restauraunt below the office has fine greek food but french fries for the Gods.

1) need more direction / leadership in NYC. Is it Alexa von Tobel (i think in title she is Head) or someone from Milwaukee? I guess Milwaukee doesn't like when she (or anyone in NYC) is outspoken as the office leader? Or so I have heard. Not their "culture". Get over it. NYC should be running Milwaukee and needs more direction on a daily basis. 2) Feels like LearnVest as we all knew it is really proprietary asset of NWM now. Not a con necessarily. But goal of employee here is to grow NWM, not LearnVest. Great impact to NWM but no longer mission to be a top financial planning company as LearnVest standalone. That seems to have stopped after the deal 3) as mentioned above, Tech and Product seem to be battling for turf with Northwestern senior management. 4) Sterile versus a real startup. This ain't no startup. This is an office for Northwestern. I get jealous hearing about the tech sprints that the old guard used to do, fueled by a new scotch each time.

Got an office manager so we now always have great food and snacks. Free lunch once a week. Paid full time for part time work.

Not been stable. Constant change and no clear path. A lot of hype and talk about NM leading into the buyout and talks and promises afterwards. Still a lot of change and BS from management. They say there is transparency but not really. New management in operations and sounded good at first but now back to normal. Seems like NM is the focus and regular LV is left alone. Lost many planners to the transition team or quitting. Impact of losing lots of staff after the transition can be seen in felt. people mumble and complain a lot behind close doors but know that it goes no where with management. Not a place to grow in your career. Recommend to people in year 1 or 2 but after that go to a planning firm to grow. Company is automating the whole process. Did not come here to be a non-thinker. Treated like we don't have brains.
