I felt like I was a used car salesman while working there. Pushed to upsale, and if people gave a budget and what they were looking for as important in eyewear, we would be told to push certain items that corporate deemed important. Managers then could come behind and discount it further to try and make a sale, offering coupons, or other items. You would try to sell at the higher price first, and try to make "multiple" sales of not just glasses, but get a sale of sunglasses, a 2nd pair for computer work, or contact lenses. Where I was at there was never gonna be a chance for advancement. Younger people were desired.
