Vantaggi
As LessonWise was so newly launched when I joined, I was always working on something and as such never felt bored! Extending that, working for LessonWise allowed me to oversee many projects meaning no day was ever the same allowing me to obtain experience in multiple areas of the business such as marketing and technology development. Also, the small size of the team meant I was constantly engaged and felt that every decision I made had a marginal impact on the direction of the firm. The fear about working for a larger company is that this feeling often gets lost. In addition, the company was very flexible when it came to hybrid working which suited me well on days where I needed to work remotely for whatever reason. The biggest pro of all though were the people and culture. Manfred is an incredibly hardworking individual with a lot of experience in the industry and the six months under his wing set me up very well for my next chapter. He always encouraged me and my co-workers to be open and never hesitate to approach him about anything. As such, this fostered a dynamic culture of support and trust which I'm grateful for.
Svantaggi
This is both a pro and a con depending on which way you look at it, but the role was incredibly fast paced (like in all start-ups), which at times was very exhausting! Understandably, Manfred expected me to complete a lot of tasks within a tight deadline meaning I often felt under pressure and stressed. Moreover, given that there were only three of us in the team, there was inevitably a very large workload on each of us. Therefore, my advice for anyone considering applying to LessonWise is simple: be prepared to work hard. Having said that, it's a still a company where you're able to achieve a healthy work/life balance provided you are efficient. Lastly, given that the company hadn't yet obtained seed funding when I joined, the base salary wasn't as high as I might have obtained in other more established start-ups. However, I was still able to cover all my expenses with some money left over, so not complaining!
