I worked in 3 Lidl stores. I do not know about Head office or warehouse; I have heard that Head office is much better, and warehouse is just as bad as working in store. The pay - SAME AS TESCO, SAINSBURYS, ETC and they treat their workers 100x better. The shifts/ hours - Always changing, cannot plan your life, SHIFTS ARE RANDOM, 5-3am one day then 6-11pm the next. Contract hours are rarely stuck to unless you are a manager. For example, someone on 10 hours could do 35 in one week. The Training – Learn everything on a computer course, colleagues are supposed to show you in real life, they do not, they are busy working understaffed stores. And then managers wonder why you know so little. The work - Starts at 5AM. Frantically work heavy delivery until store opens without any breakfast or going to the toilet. If you do not complete your delivery in time you will be in trouble because you have to work them in a certain time, there is a lot to do for only a few people. Store opens, you will grab a till, Till 1-3 you will be scanning items as fast as you can through the belt the rest of your shift, at the end of the day YOUR FINGERS WILL BE NUMB AND HURT FROM THE AMOUNT OF TIMES AND SPEED OF GRABBING ITEMS THROUGH THE TILL - NO JOKE HERE. YOU WILL NOT HAVE TIME EVEN TO TALK TO CUSTOMERS BECAUSE OF HOW UNDERSTAFFED YOU ARE. If you are one of the other tills your life will be better as you alternate between shop floor and till. Evening shift starts after midday. If you are on till, then you will be on there until 10pm which is painful. You will speedily do your cleaning up jobs at the end of the day. Unrealistic targets are set for the end of the day, you will half do jobs because one man is not enough to do all of them in one hour. You will go home knackered and wondering why you even go to work. Break will be 30 minutes even on a 12-hour shift, 15 minutes on a 6- hour shift. It is no wonder most store colleagues are young men, they are the only ones who can handle the physical and mental stress. You can forget about any physical exercise you do all your energy will be used up at Lidl!!! The colleagues - You will be to busy working to get to know anyone, some can be ****. 2 colleagues tried to fight with me, in the middle of store on 2 occasions and another one I knew would shout at customers. The customers – Usually nice, they get annoyed when you don’t have enough tills, that isn’t your fault - it is the fault of Lidl because they do not employ enough staff. Sometimes you will not have any security so you will watch out for thieves whilst doing your other jobs!! The managers – wish you had the same ability as 10 workers. Management at head office seem to have no idea about the realities of their stores, or maybe they do and do not care, because they pay homage to those above. Lidl are a disgrace upon the retail industry, and they should be ashamed for how they treat their store employees. It is disturbing that a western company could operate like this at such a vast scale and get away with it!! Well I guess this is the doomed USA style capitalist ang globalized world we are heading for! Lidl should change the way they run their store operations, but they will not because someone somewhere is getting fat on cash from it. PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYES OF LIDL YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!! As a full time university student I can honestly say Lidl definitely contributed to me loosing my Funded Scholarship, due to the amount of crap I had to deal with this company my grades suffered. To the company representatives that like to post on all bad reviews, you have either never worked in a lidls supermarket and wouldn't last 5minutes in one, or you are just keeping up the evil lie for your evil company. Benefits are excellent, most people at the peer level are great. Clear performance expectations. Decent cross functional communication

Company leadership very European and doesn't quite understand the American consumer even after being in the US so long. Unreasonable expectations are the norm. No upward mobility unless you are European or speak fluent German.
