Vantaggi
Two weeks full-time paid training in their learning methods. Worthwhile approach to improving student literacy.
Svantaggi
The space is cramped, with no airflow or openable Windows. Stuffy, stagnant, dismal feel. The inadequately sized office suite is dumpy and not well-maintained. There are constantly other clinicians racing around to try to keep up with the harried schedule (5 minutes prep time between each student, during which time you must check the ever-changing schedule in the tiny break room, locate the child you’re working with next on a tiny hand drawn map that also changes, find the child, and then the moment you sit down, be prepared to immediately launch into their tasks. You barely have time to review the day’s list of 5-15 min. language drills which are written in shorthand and require different materials and intricate steps, all to be done in precise order and completed within 55 minutes. This list changes every day, sometimes more than once a day it is updated. While working with the child, you are expected to be typing up specific feedback in google drive for management about the types of errors the student is making in each different task on the list, and completing various logs of what specific pages you read, etc and then also marking their attendance, all while making small talk with them to keep things lively. The timing is so rushed people are literally bumping into each other in the hallway esteem sessions because there’s not enough room to get around. It feels claustrophobic in the kitchen break room—only room for about 4 people to be in there at a time, with a staff of 25 or so onsite at all times. None of the clinicians smile or seem happy, everyone is just looking down, perhaps conserving their energy for the children. Some of them are very good with kids and doing a great job, but most seem depressed. The workspace itself feels toxic and many clinicians are sloppy and poorly groomed. Finally, the schedule changes every week and is emailed to you so you will not know which days or partial you are working until a couple days in advance. Also know you’re not going to be working 40 hours a week.
