Vantaggi
The kids are usually wonderful and always funny. The work itself is intense but satisfying.
Svantaggi
Getting lied to. I always performed well according to my evaluations, and the fact that whenever a mentor observed my sessions I rarely had anything in the improve/refine column of the sheet they filled out. I was frequently promised that I would be promoted to other positions like mentoring and Star Training, but both of those positions were granted to employees with less experience, one of whom was seasonal and only worked 2-3 months out of the year, while I was year-round. Also, Lindamood-Bell Academy was a nightmare. I taught English to several students in the last half of the school year. I originally started with two, but a third was randomly dumped in my lap without any warning or time to prepare. That student was at an entirely different spot in the curriculum, and so trying to catch him up with 3-4 weeks left in the semester was nearly impossible. Furthermore, I was frequently instructed by the pre-written curriculum to teach the subject incorrectly. I have a bachelor's and master's in English, the master's being from Columbia, so I know this subject like the back of my hand, and I know the curriculum was wrong on numerous occasions. These children are intended to re-integrate into a normal school environment at some point, and by mis-educating them we not only make it much harder to accomplish that and for them to continue to succeed in that normal environment. Not to mention how this will result in them being ill-equipped to deal with the world beyond school. This is really just scratching the surface. I don't want to be writing a review all day long, so I'm going to end it here.
