There are operational challenges that make it pretty stressful to work there. The expectations are very high, with not enough time provided to complete the work. Everything feels very rushed and frantic all the time, especially since there is a culture of staff calling out sick, leading to significant time being lost regularly to just managing the schedule and taking on other people's work for the day. Unfortunately the instructors are not always given enough quality training and practice, so instructional quality is highly variable, without there being enough staff available to mentor and provide ongoing professional development. Additionally, with added challenges through the pandemic, many students are coming into the programs with serious behavior challenges and lacking skills necessary to participate in instruction, but we are still expected to serve them without being set up to handle those challenges. Unfortunately the services are not a perfect fit for every student, but Lindamood-Bell tries to serve them anyway and makes unrealistic promises to families about the outcome.
