An intern will learn a lot from this opportunity. They will get the chance to listen to congressional hearings and give typed reports, do research on relevant politics topics at the time, and will complete a lot of projects will interning. The staff are really awesome people. This is not a make copies and get coffee internship. Interns play an important role in day to day operations and they work just as hard as paid employees. If you're looking for experience or want to learn more about how government relations firms operate, this is a good place to intern.

Unpaid. It's not really a con unless you're only looking for paid internships. Also, you'll do a lot of work and the hours are long. So make sure you have the time to commit.

The other staff members are nice

Dehumanising. This job is absolutely dehumanising. Liz will promise "experience" and connections to her employees, this is all a blatant lie. If employees complain, this is dismissed as having a millennial attitude. Liz expects employees to do personal tasks for her daughter and husband, she'll ask for employees to clean her house, drive her car, be on call at all hours of the day. Degrading. It is a completely degrading experience to type email dictations (sometimes beginning at 6 or 7 pm because it fits in Liz's schedule). Liz has no concept of a boundary between personal and professional hours. One very popular task is to fax screenshots of news websites to Liz and then print articles that she requires and fax them back to her. Underpaid and undervalued. There were countless examples of interns not being reimbursed for their transport expenses or paid the full amount for their salary. Liz will justify underpaying employees because of health insurance costs. The positive reviews here must have been written by a loyal staff member because there is nothing to learn or gain from this experience. People will stay a year or more, thinking this is an investment for their future, but it isn't. To give an example, "management" was considering hiring someone from the UK so they could sponsor their visa and essentially ensure that they wouldn't quit their job. These are the sort of tactics that they will resort to.
