They have restructured their portfolio and sold-off their IT company (IS&GS) and all the IT work except for what support their core business: manufacturing of things that fly, float, or explode. The year prior to this they enacted a matrix management organization which was a disaster and hugely expensive to the programs. LM is not the only corporation doing this. The services sector is too competitive and low-margin for these large corporations to survive. Defense materiel is more lucrative to the shareholders.
