Vantaggi

Beautiful facility. Great pay. Wonderful team.

Svantaggi

-CEO has taken the company from one of Portland’s best places to work to why am I still here? -Very regressive and tone-deaf policies treat employees like cogs in a machine. -A very apparent lack of care to celebrate employees, especially of diverse backgrounds. prior year DEI efforts have been engaging and fun, now it’s a single teams message. -HR executive is struggling to implement basic policies as if they’re lost. -It’s very clear the company is moving to Dallas, TX. Forcing all new hires to be located there. The CEO said, “we have an iron-clad lease in our current building and believe me I tried to get out of it.” When asked if the entire company was moving to TX right away. -Spent tons on lavish overseas parties for executives and principals but have asked for sweeping budget cuts.

Thank you for your feedback. We regret that you’re not having a rewarding workplace experience at M, which is the opposite of our intent to make sure our employees feel appreciated — personally and professionally. We encourage you to reach out to your supervisor or human resources to discuss your concerns. There is always more work that needs to be done to satisfy our DEI goals. To that end, we are committed to providing a workplace culture that embraces individuality and diversity, as defined by our core values. Our employee resource groups, led by employees and for employees, offer a range of opportunities to meaningfully connect and engage at M, including over fitness, to encourage wellness, and to promote and celebrate diversity, equity, and inclusion. There are several reasons for our Dallas expansion. Foremost is the city’s booming financial services sector that is favorable for our operations, the operations of our Member Firms, and is strongly supported by the presence of a thriving community of financial professionals. We are in a vigorous hiring phase to staff the Dallas office expansion with personnel specific to that office’s operations, which will differ from those of our Portland office. We continue to hire for open positions at our Portland office, however, and intend to do so for the foreseeable future.

Vantaggi

I love working here, it’s a great fit for the right strengths. If you’re an adaptable, tenacious, problem solver, you’ll thrive. There are repetitive and unique tasks that arise, satisfying both needs for structure and challenge. I’ve watched our CEO grow with his delivery during town halls and office interactions.

Svantaggi

Internal communications could be more streamlined and centralized; the majority of communications target the field and associates could benefit on less formal internal communications of what’s occurring within business units.

Vantaggi

Modern office space and generally pleasant physical work environment.

Svantaggi

Leadership appears to equate visibility with productivity. Employees are closely monitored, and minor deviations from expected routines can receive disproportionate attention. The culture often feels less focused on results and more focused on ensuring people are visibly performing work at all times. Note: the lowest pay in the industry. There is a noticeable gap between stated values and day-to-day management practices. Professional adults are treated as though they require constant oversight, which creates an atmosphere of distrust. Rather than empowering employees to succeed, management frequently defaults to control, criticism, and second-guessing. Training and development expectations are often unrealistic. Employees are expected to rapidly absorb complex material while simultaneously maintaining full workloads and navigating shifting expectations. Success is expected, but meaningful support is inconsistent. The organization would benefit from spending less time monitoring employees and more time addressing strategic priorities, process improvements, and retention concerns. Talented people do not leave because the work is difficult; they leave because they are exhausted by unnecessary management friction.
