Vantaggi

Young team, good opportunity to meet network, great snacks, fun retreats

Svantaggi

Loyalty is valued above all else, unprofessional leadership, culture on paper strives to be "transparent" but the reality is an emotion-driven environment that promotes friends, doesn't allow for constructive criticism, and doesn't really value employees when it matters . Mission comes well after ego and leadership emotion du jour. Surprising coming from a nonprofit that touts itself as a model of architecture serving society.

Vantaggi

This organization is filled with incredibly talented, brilliant, and inspiring individuals.

Svantaggi

MASS Design Group presents itself as an architecture firm dedicated to social impact, but the reality falls far from its marketed image. Since the founder's departure, the organization has devolved into a conventional architecture practice reminiscent of the 1960s — hierarchical, risk-averse, and lacking vision. The leadership, particularly the current male, operates from a place of fear rather than innovation. Despite its headquarters in Rwanda, which serves as a convenient symbol of diversity, the U.S. studios fail to reflect any meaningful inclusivity. Black representation is minimal, and diversity across skill sets, backgrounds, and leadership is virtually nonexistent. The few Black employees in the organization are often tokenized, placed in positions where they are disconnected from their own communities. Beneath the nonprofit branding, MASS functions like a Silicon Valley startup — chasing funding, courting billionaires like Airbnb’s former leadership, and prioritizing self-preservation over the communities they claim to serve. The organization’s emphasis on impact is more a marketing strategy than a core value. To make matters worse, the pay is abysmal — a glaring contradiction for a firm that prides itself on equity and social good. For those seeking a career in architecture driven by genuine community investment, MASS is little more than a well-crafted facade.
