Manning Digital is a group of passionate, talented people who work well together, have fun and are focused on producing the best work possible. The space is creative. A wood loft with very tall ceilings and lots of sunlight. It’s an open office environment – but not cubes with high walls. So there is generally a fair amount of interaction as you’re working on a project. Sometimes people are moved into teams next to each other to work closely on a project – which is nicer than shouting across the office. There is a lounge area with an old-fashioned chalk board painted floor to ceiling on the wall that’s used for collaboration and brainstorming. What I like is that it’s big enough that several people can be writing on the wall – and not just a “team leader” writing notes at the typical dry erase board. There is a fair amount of flexibility that you would expect from a boutique for doctors appointments and such as long as you get your work done. It’s also very convenient to the new Morgan stop on the Green Line. The benefits are good. Unlike many boutiques, there is a good health plan, and a 401K retirement plan. And the roof deck is awesome -- especially when they are rehearsing the air and water show.

Nothing outside the regular challenges of working at a digital agency. It’s a great place if you are self-motivated and take responsibility for your work. If you prefer to be told exactly what to do every day and are better following orders – this is not a good place to be. The people I’ve seen leave who are not happy are ones that had difficulty self-directing and didn’t get their work done.
