The focus at ML is on expanding the engineering team/programs, so everything admin is a bit of an afterthought. There has been a decent amount of turnover in ops with little in the way of solid process creation, so systems are not well organized.
Currently, no staff members in decision making positions have an actual background or skillset in operations. What this means for anyone joining Ops is that they will likely have an outsized impact if they are willing to dig in and speak truth to power, which may be a welcome challenge for some, but can be isolating and a source of burnout.
I worked at ML for over 2 years and only had one formal review, no raises, no COLA.
