Wow. Where do I begin? I have worked at several places during my career and I would have to say my managers were the worst people on earth. There are some managers at Marvell that are good people but definitely stay far far away from the teams that suck and the managers that suck. Interview the heck out of the managers. Ask how much turn over there is. There is a lot of turnover here. This review is 3-4 months in the making so here are the bullet points: One manager: - Condescending & disdainful to some team members, especially women. This manager has a problem with strong and smart women. - Brutal & heartless. I can't get into specific examples without giving away my identity but just please take my word for it. - Shows favoritism and performs special favors to others. For example, some folks that are excellent don't get contracts extended while other folks that are average get converted from contractor to perm. This manager has a twisted view of judging others' performance and can't think straight. Two direct reports can perform the same "error" but this manager will hate the one and love and excuse the other. - Out to line their own pocketbook. Selfish, self-centered, immoral, unethical. - Presents one image to e-staff and his/her peers but treats certain direct reports w disdain. - Uses their own ego to make business decisions. Makes really poor business decisions. - Makes poor hiring decisions. - Can't develop others. Uses others for their own agenda instead of developing others. - Does not properly run the team. The place is a circus but they know how to keep it "looking good" on the outside. - Over commits on projects. Over works their people without regard to how full their plates already are. - Makes poor decisions on projects. Some projects more appropriate for a much larger sized company but he/ she still wants to move forward w some initiatives. - Cold & unfeeling, like a stone. - Creates a toxic and tense work environment. Another manager (same team): - mean, bully, confrontational, belittling - interrogator, interrogation tactics, intimidation tactics - anger & control simmering beneath the surface, blows any minute - micromanaging - extremely uptight and grumpy - corners you - backwards & old school - abuses his/her power and position. Power has gotten into their heads. - brutal, cut throat - Makes poor business decisions on how to run things. Allows for roadblocks and inefficiencies that affect morale. This places stinks like hell. After I got to know others, other employees confided in me that they should've told me to run as far as I could've before I decided to come work there. Other employees also told me the place was hell on earth. It was a hellish time and I will never wish it upon my worst enemy.
