Vantaggi

Immediate management is GREAT! I am totally empowered to make suggestions, improvements, even fail as long as something is learned. Work hours are flexible, I can even work from home. Great benefits! I feel like this is a good company, financially strong.

Svantaggi

Almost impossible to get promoted from hourly to salaried. In fact I've been told I will not ever be salaried even with my BA degree that applies directly to my job. If you are not male and an engineer in my group you are not valuable enough to be salaried, even though I would not make much more except for the bonuses. If it were not for my direct manager and his management style of empowerment I would be searching for a better opportunity where I could have the possibility of advancement. Also, if you are not salaried in this company you are considered a second class citizen even if you are doing salaried-type work for an hourly wage. There are many of us.

Vantaggi

Working at Maxim was challenging and rewarding. Benefits are in line or ahead of the curve in pay, bonus pool, stock options as well as an employee stock purchase plan. The company has changed helm in the past several years, and it shows with the new management style. All top executives are in line with aggressive growth and a keen eye on the future no matter what the cost.

Svantaggi

With any new management there are always pitfalls. Management by fear, quarterly assessments, bell curved annual reviews (that even Maxim's own HR department states unfairly trap managers into picking a subordinate to be the "failure" employee on the curve for that year). Foreign Vice Presidents that can't communicate well because they never bothered to properly learn the English language. (Everyone in meetings - listening - catches every third word). It's hard to be taken seriously if you can't properly communicate, and make absolutely no effort at trying to improve your own skills. Very few other cons at Maxim that bothered me other than the usual "Pet Employees" that management seems to protect and advance unfairly. This is no different than any other large company.
