      Majority of the employees are smart, creative and kind. The office location and environment is nice (bright, open office setting). Clients are pretty carefully vetted, which means you generally won't end up having to promote a company with shady business practices or a terrible product. Teams do truly great work for clients. Maxwell provides an awesome health insurance policy for all employees.

      Maxwell PR doesn't internally practice what it preaches. The agency positions itself as a progressive, forward-thinking, inclusive, sustainable creative agency, but in practice is none of those things -- and unfortunately it takes a while to see it, so it feels like employees are wooed under false pretenses. The PTO policy doesn't include any standard paid holidays (that's right, they encourage employees to take holidays off, but if you don't want to work Thanksgiving, or Christmas day, or Labor Day, you have to use your vacation days). Employees are not allowed to work from home, and don't have laptops to do so even if the policy was more flexible. There is virtually zero racial diversity among employees. There is no paid parental leave policy (which is especially hard to swallow from not just a woman-owned but a mother-owned company). There is no HR. The office is beautiful but is not ADA-compliant. They conduct quarterly and annual reviews, but employees rarely if ever have the chance to review their superiors. When management has asked for feedback on employee culture and policies in the past, they've done nothing with the information. Compensation is drastically lower for the same job levels/duties at other creative agencies in the area.

      Our policies have been updated and now include: six company holidays in addition to a generous amount of paid time off, plenty of laptops for employees to work from home when necessary, and a paid parental leave policy that gives new parents four weeks of paid time off in addition to short term disability. We do now have a dedicated HR Specialist on the team and our HR software ensures that feedback is obtained from all levels of co-workers for annual reviews and feedback throughout the year. Our most recent annual salary review has ensured that our salaries are competitive with local agencies similar in scale and scope, and our office meets the City of Portland’s ADA requirements for a place of business. In addition, we are committed to making diversity, inclusion, and belonging part of our business strategy. We appreciate the feedback and suggestions shared by our employees, which help us to continually evolve and improve.

      - I love how much I've learned in such a short amount of time. I'm new to PR but not to media work, so it's been great to see where my strengths and weaknesses are within an agency environment. - I feel like I'm really listened to in terms of ideas, feedback and the type of work I do/don't enjoy. - People like to collaborate and consider new ways of doing things so every day is exciting. We don't keep to one mold or formula. Each account is VERY different and it feels like we're constantly evolving with the work we do. - I like the vetting process the agency goes through when signing on a new client. There's much thought and consideration of a brand's ethics that I appreciate. - The culture is fun as well. I didn't feel like I had an awkward phase when I first started. I felt comfortable and included from the get-go. - Nice office perks - LOVE the location

      Wonderful clients, everyone I worked with at an executional level was wonderful. Maxwell is a well respected agency in the area with a lot of client trust.

      As other reviews have shared, toxic culture. Felt clique-y at times, and at others it was respect shown only for title. Outdated in that sense of culture and also from a technology standpoint. Maxwell knows that humans are at the center of the work, but struggles to treat them as such since the $$ is the true north star for the leadership team.
