The people at Mediavine were the best part of the job. I worked with smart, collaborative teammates who genuinely cared about doing good work and supporting one another. The company also offered the flexibility of remote work, and for a long time, the work itself felt meaningful and energizing.

I walked into an organization that lacked proper leadership. The company was reactive rather than strategic. Priorities shifted frequently, communication from upper management was inconsistent, and employees were micromanaged to an extreme level yet often left without sufficient clarity or transparency regarding decisions. I was laid off in July 2025, and even though there were multiple rounds of layoffs before that, it still came as a complete shock. That was the clearest sign to me that leadership was either not being transparent with employees or was disconnected from what people were actually experiencing on the ground. It is hard to trust a company when layoffs feel sudden and avoidable from the employee side. While there were many talented individuals and strong contributors, managers could not compensate for inconsistent executive communication, frequent changes in direction, and instability. Some opportunities for professional growth existed through new projects or added responsibilities, but clear career paths and consistent development plans were lacking. Advancement often depended on leadership changes or shifting priorities rather than a structured process. I left disappointed, not due to the work or colleagues, but because leadership did not provide the trust, focus, or consistency the company needed.

Mediavine invests in its employees and provides plenty of opportunities to develop new skills. Leadership has been making a noticeable effort to support employees while encouraging open communication and feedback. Colleagues are always willing to share knowledge, and there's a genuine sense of wanting to see clients as well as the company succeed.

Like any company, there can be challenges and shifts in priorities as the industry changes. This has impacted some colleagues, which is never easy, but the company has handled it with respect and care.

They had a very strong LGBTQ+ hiring initiative, despite the national political effort to dissuade employers away from doing that.

I have never experienced working directly with an executive leadership team who strived on a daily basis so intentionally to burn the company to the ground as quickly as possible. The laughably bad business decisions which were made, the very public and juvenile infighting between executives, and the pathetic excuses which followed when mass layoffs "had to happen" is just... sad. It is not surprising, but it's just sad. MV could have been such a great place to work. But, instead "toxic" would have been a real blessing. Working there was like surviving "Squid Game"... every single day. That is no way to live.
