People used to speak with admiration about the company- this attitude prevailed from employees and customers alike. Salaries were competitive and stock options were a real incentive to remain loyal to the company. You were surrounded by people who spent their entire working career at Merck.

To say that Merck has fallen off that pedestal is an understatement. Most employees are fearful of losing their jobs due to the latest round of cuts. Senior Management is largely absent during this process. This creates an atmosphere of fear and distrust among employees. There is no appreciation for the productivity of employees because if your job is targeted for elimination, you are displaced without any recourse.
