Vantaggi

Consistent hours, health, dental, vision & retirement offered. Regular commute in lieu of travel to projects. Occasional options for travel/site work. Excellent crew, management that works hard to keep crew working, construction out of the weather, and many custom (interesting) homes.

Svantaggi

Year round hours; limited downtime. Lower wage than in field for some. Ups and downs of economy/construction industry do impact the business.

Vantaggi

You get full time hours, and some decent pay. During my 1.5 years or so there I received 2 raises plus a cost of living increase. Now I won't say that it was crazy money or anything, but for the job which required no skills beyond basic proficiency with tools, it was great. My first supervisor was a great one, and the ones that followed were as well. I was well taken care of and the benefits offered were very good. Dental especially. The upper level management was also very good, I truly enjoyed working there and id recommend it to people who want to learn some things about construction. I can't speak to its viability as a career, but for me it was the best job I had worked at the time. The company also did plenty of things for the employees like after work parties.

Svantaggi

Sometimes there was forced overtime, but it was pretty rare, and you'd get compensated for it. For what it was (at least for me) there weren't really any cons.

Vantaggi

Many people believe modular building is cool, green, cheap and efficient. There's an exciting vibe around modular buildings. The owner builds off this enthusiasm to draw in new clients.

Svantaggi

The projects are routinely set up to fail because of a lack of honesty about project costs. Modular construction is not any cheaper than site-built construction. Any potential savings in construction time are usually eaten up by transportation costs. Poor coordination between the factory and the contractors who assemble the homes on site is typical and results in construction delays and increased costs to the owner.

We appreciate your comment. Modular building IS cool, green and efficient! We have yet to have a project "fail" in our 17+ years of constructing quality, precision engineered prefabricated homes and commercial structures. And as modular construction gains a stronger following and more momentum in the United States, the pool of contractors who assemble and complete the homes on site grows, too! Luckily, we have been able to work with some great contractors and skilled workers and it shows in our ability to continue to design and produce cost-effective and healthy structures.
