Vantaggi

Most of the nurses I’ve worked with on the floor and as a phlebotomist is great. They are willing to help with questions on labs. I worked with them over 11 years

Svantaggi

1. Some members of the lab dept are not cordial and don’t speak a simple good morning. When you say good morning, there’s like a selective hearing amongst them and they don’t choose to say it back. There’s no teamwork and they choose to go on the floor late whenever they please 2. 7 on/7off schedule. Gain no PTO time and on top of that, if you call in, not only will phleb will lose the 10 hrs that day, phleb will lose the extra 10 they give if you don’t complete the whole 7 days. Working 7 days straight can be exhausting, already to be off after day 5. 3. Anytime you come to management with complaints or concerns, nothing gets done. Management is inexperienced and has no knowledge in the art of phlebotomy. They do not look at resumes for experience, but look more for the “personality”. 4. Not enough reliable PRN’s to cover your shift if you wanted a day off. Must find your own coverage, management won’t find coverage for you. 5. Limited supplies, only 4 lab carts. Coming behind others after being off a week, they totally trash the carts. 6. The new Epic system they have has got to be the worst, cheapest system ever. There’s only a two hr window to see lab work and if a patient was schedule for a timed lab and patient already been stuck, patient must be restuck again, which is not fair to them.

Vantaggi

Coming from a smaller size hospital but big company like Methodist and known high paying hospital in DFW, I needed more shifts. Since MDMC is bigger than my other PRN, I have higher chance of getting shifts because there are more monitoring stations, more staff taking PTOs, higher chance of staff calling out sick and therefore opening the shift, etc.

Svantaggi

More workload and higher census! Almost 50 patients on heart monitor per station.

We're glad to hear that the flexibility and availability of shifts have been a benefit for you. As one of the region's largest health systems, Methodist offers opportunities that can help PRN team members find the schedule that works best for them. We also recognize that higher patient volumes and workload expectations can come with working in a busy, high-acuity environment. Supporting our team members remains a priority, and we continually evaluate our compensation programs and workplace resources to remain competitive and help our employees succeed. Thank you for the important role you play in caring for our patients and for being a valued member of the Methodist family.
