Vantaggi

Metier has a unique culture and environment. It's a good place to gain experience in the corporate world and the software industry. The office environment is rather friendly and relaxed, yet professional (at times) and the senior management is always coming up with new ways to push and motivate employees. The new Santa Rosa office is extremely nice and has an excellent downtown location with sweeping views of the city and surrounding hills. The view alone is good for morale.

Svantaggi

This company has a cult like culture. They have a very obscure way of interviewing and hiring people and are very particular about who they allow into their inner circle. The management has built a culture and environment where people are homogenous and not encouraged to break the norms or go outside the boundries that they have set. This encourages everyone here to act like a bunch of brainwashed robots. This is a very young company, the average employee age seems to be around 24 years old. Thus, immaturity is rampant around here. Most of the employees here are either right out of college or have only worked for 1-2 years in their career prior to starting at Métier. There is not a day that goes by where someone does not have an immature outburst or tantrum. It's bad enough having 2-3 young employees working together among older employees, but when you have an entire office of young employees, it gets really bad. Don't even think about working here if you are older than 32, it will drive you crazy! These young employees are very arrogant and conceided and they think they know everything! However, they definitely have alot to learn. The people who work at this company are of average intelligence. Regardless of what they may think, they are far from the brightest folks in the world. The management here has a weird approach to running things. They treat their employees like young children and do not pay them well. They encourage a young and inexperienced crowd because they are more impressionable and are not as likely to question the company rhetoric. Young employees are more likely to assume that it is done this way everywhere. They will also work for far less money. So if you have more than 4-5 years work experience, look elsewhere. They intentionally look for a young crowd because they are easier to bring into their "cult" and they are too cheap to pony up any money for real talent. The management tries to encourage employees to become excited about their work by acting like everything here is "top secret" and that you are working on PPM systems for the CIA, FBI, and NSA. It can get rather childish how they act like everything is confidential and top secret. Even if we really were building PPM systems for these government agencies, nothing about the software would be top secret until the customers actually enter data into the system. When Métier works on the software there is no data (or fake data) so really there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING CONFIDENTIAL!

Vantaggi

It's a very small company and you can gain tons of experience and take on a lot of responsibility very quickly. in addition, it's a very fun place to work. The office space is very open, the people are generally friendly, and it's a young/fun atmosphere. You will gain a lot of exposure to both project and portfolio management as well as IT and application development and deployment.

Svantaggi

You're either in with the "it" crowd or you're out. Sr. level management is very tight-lipped and not always forthcoming, even about things that are pretty silly and do not need to be confidential. In addition, promotions and recognition are very inconsistent and somewhat ad-hoc, with a disparate amount of both going to the "in" crowd. There's a handful of employees that have been there a long time (see their "about us" page), while the remainder of the company is pretty much a revolving door. Great place to get experience, not a great place to make a career.
