Floor staff and mid-range managers have great ideas and are motivated to implement the mission of the museum. The city of Detroit NEEDS an all encompassing science museum like this one. The stage area is fantastic. 50% of the exhibits are ageless and very interesting. The other 50% are not functional, out of date, worn out and the layout of the exhibit gallery's don't make sense. The differences that could be made with a capital improvement plan would carry the museum into the next 10 years.

Executive leadership doesn't provide adequate or timely strategic guidance to allow managers and directors to accomplish goals of the mission. All important policies, programs and marketing seem last minute and not well thought out. Depth of execution is minimal. Seems like there is an unusually large gap between exec leaders & managers regarding: trust, empowerment to succeed, communication and implementation. Executive leader is an excellent speaker, but not so excellent at managing growth with her team and recognizing excellent on the staff. Seems like she is more connected with her own career path rather than the museums. Having a charter school attached to the museum with little interaction or operational support is ridiculous.
