They’d rather hire middle management from outside than develop internal talent. If you’re young, it’s fine for padding your résumé before moving on. Otherwise, it’s mostly where boomers go to ride out their careers until retirement. If you get an interview, aim high on salary—you’ll need it. Raises are a joke, maybe 5% every two years. Bonuses are laughable: inconsistent, tiny, and when they actually happen, you’re looking at about $500. No commissions here, either. You can crush every quarter, but if the board says no bonus, you get nothing. Meanwhile, the board is taking home generous stock awards. Bottom line: You’ll work hard, but the rewards go upward, not outward.
