The staff are great, and working with a group who all share the same interests and love of comics made the cons bearable, for the most part. Having a staff discount on comics and merchandise was pretty nice too.

The hours are long and inflexible, mostly because upper management refuses to hire more than the absolute bare minimum staff. Vacations are few and far between, and 1 person taking time off means everyone else is forced to work overtime. Encounters with rude, belligerent, and unstable customers are also common; staff are expected to effectively and politely deal with some very difficult personalities with little or no support from upper management. There is an expectation to report interactions with such customers, but if done so then the staff or manager making the report is often accused of "escalating the situation". I have witnessed customers make unprovoked threats of violence against the staff, only for upper management to blame the staff member for losing a potential sale. The pay is not great either, with almost no benefits to speak of outside of the staff discount, meaning that working here long term is unlikely to be sustainable.
