The culture is very bureaucratic, with a focus on process over outcomes at every level. Leadership is largely invisible, creating a vacuum that is filled by project managers who lack subject matter expertise. These PMs are obsessed with processes rather than driving results, which leads to decision-making paralysis and a general sense that nothing meaningful ever gets done. Incompetence is widespread and often concealed beneath layers of meetings and processes. Most of the truly capable employees come from acquired companies, while the "old guard"—many of whom hold influential positions—lack the necessary skills or mindset to lead effectively. Despite this, they remain entrenched due to tenure rather than merit. As a result the company struggles to perform the most basic business functions like paying employees accurately, billing customers and completing SEC filings (Mitek were almost kicked out of the NASDAQ for non-compliance). Teams and products are highly disjointed, largely due to the failure to properly integrate acquisitions resulting in fragmented teams and poor collaboration. Lack of accountability and clear direction across the organisation makes it extremely difficult to do meaningful work or feel any real progress.
