General Managers are expected to make only slightly more than Assistant Managers, and there are stores where Assistant Managers make more than their GM! Absolutely no vision from company management, only the bottom line matters. No developmental program (or any training at all, really) for any positions within the company. Payroll is expected to be cut on a daily basis if necessary.
