Vantaggi
The best thing about Monotype is the 2021 removal of both the CEO, Scott Landers, and the CTO, Steven Martin. The previous CEO provided Monotype with no clear direction but yet many blunders. Some of his various missteps included acquisition of unrelated / near-failure businesses, an extravagant and unnecessary renovation of office space, and terminating an enormous number of creative, talented engineers and font designers to balance the cost of his mistakes. If that’s not enough, his efforts to buy back stock to pad the executive team’s pockets with options was inexcusable, as the company was heading to disaster. "Investors would do well to ask themselves whether this is a company run for management or for investors. " - Kelly Stewart, Seeking Alpha, Jan 2018. The previous CTO had no business directing a technical organization. He contributed little to the technical product suite, the domestic engineering team dissolved under his leadership, and his moving of Engineering activities to India backfired as well, when most employees left after their pandemic-inspired pay freeze. However, looking forward, the middle management team across all organizations @ Monotype is excellent, the work/life balance is very positive, the benefits / pay is reasonable, and the bonuses are awesome. The collaboration between groups is very good, and we have high hopes that the new CEO will get the company back on track. We just need to get the previous CEO’s picture off of GlassDoor.
Svantaggi
Things are getting better, but there is still quite a bit of turnover in the company. New faces are seen at every meeting, and some groups have lost but gained back several people in just a few weeks.
